I had a very interesting and eye opening incident happen today and I thought I would share it with you. Perhaps this will make you consider something you've not considered before, or even cause you to accept what it is that God has placed on your heart to do.
Actually the incident didn't happen to me but to our 10 year daughter. It spoke very loud to me and perhaps it will to you. We were baking cookies today and I had to step out of the kitchen and I gave the next few steps for the cookies. I said, "Are you comfortable with that"? Very confidently she said, "yes Mom". After putting the cookies on the sheet, I told her to: put the mitt on, open the oven door, pull the rack out and place the cookie sheet in the center of the rack, leave them in for 12 minutes. I walked through the steps with her. I wanted her to see how I did it (covering all safety measures). She said, "I got it". So I walked out.
When I returned to the kitchen the cookie sheet was out and I inquired, "are they done". She said, "yes, I did them for 12 minutes". After a couple of minutes had past she said, "Mom I burned myself". Of course I showed much alarm and turned to her to see where. She pointed to her hand and began to tell me the story.
Now here is the message...she did everything I instructed her to do (almost), but when she went to pull the cookie sheet out, she grabbed the oven rack with the hand that didn't have the mitt on it. Reason being, she is a lefty and she is use to using her left hand. The help and protection she needed was right before her, in fact literally in her hand. Now I know you may be saying, "that's the act of a 10 year old". However, sometimes we adults can do the same thing spiritually.
All I'm asking is, "Are you continuing to do things the way you've always done them, because that's the way you are use to doing them"? Have you considered that there is help in the other hand. All the help, provision and protection that you need. Just take a moment and look around you, ask God, what am I over looking. What's in my hand?
Here's a prayer that you can add to your day, week or life.
Lord help me to not get use to the norm that I over look the obvious that can help others and myself.
By the way...our daughter is fine, she did experience some discomfort, but the first initial contact with the rack sent a signal to her brain...wrong hand!
Have a fit day and stay...
