Hi there, I would like to take a moment to share a few words of encouragement to those of you who may feel like you are right back where you started physically or in some cases worse off. You worked really hard in 09 for about 6 - 7 months straight and the last 3 - 2 months you just "fail off the wagon". You feel like all your hard word went overboard. Well, hold your head up and stop beating yourself up. It's really how you look at this situation. You can look at this a couple ways. You can say, "I blew all my hard work" or you can say "If I can go at it for 6 (7) months then surely I can go for a year". It's all how you look at your situation. Of course it can be heartbreaking to blow hard staking work, but this can also be used to motivate you to go farther and work harder.
I encourage you to settle it in your mind and heart that you are going to go after (even if it is the 100th time), your physical goal(s). As long as you have breath, just keep at it. They haven't stop making wagons. If you fail off of that one, maybe you need a different one. What I'm saying is, find the program that best fits you and your lifestyle. Ask God for His help! Don't feel like this is petty and insignificant to God. No way! What matters to you matters to God.
I would love to encourage you and help keep you on your wagon.
Let's commit to fit!!

Lose Your Love Handles
Question :
Please tell me what exercise to do to get rid of those love handles on my hips and sides of my stomach that hang over the sides of my jeans. You ladies know where I'm talking about.
Answer :
Sorry, but you can't magically make those "love handles" disappear. The belief that you can somehow spot reduce (selectively zap fat from an offending area of your body) is a persistent misconception among exercisers. If only you COULD spot reduce! Then doing thousands of sit-ups would melt away your spare tire. But as many have found out the hard way, this approach simply won't work. Specific exercises will not result in loss of body fat from specific areas. Period.
"Problem areas" are just genetically determined places on an individual's body where excess fat tends to be stored. The only way to lose fat deposited on any area of the body is to reduce the overall level of fat storage. Sensible eating habits designed to reduce calorie intake and regular exercise designed to burn off excess calories will help reduce overall body-fat stores. Here's the best, if not the most earth-shattering, approach to getting a handle on those love handles:
Try to maintain a consistent schedule that includes 30-45 minutes of aerobic exercise 3-4 times a week or more. In addition, doing a total-body strength-training routine twice a week will increase your lean body composition, which will help you burn more calories even when you're at rest. This in turn will further enable you to reduce your overall fat stores, including those love handles, saddlebags, etc. As for diet, eat five or six small, low-fat meals a day to keep your blood sugar steady and your metabolism stoked and to prevent cravings and pig-outs.
You can also improve the overall appearance of your waist by spot TRAINING to tone the muscles underneath the fat deposits. Doing 2-5 abdominal exercises twice a week will adequately train those muscles so they become visible as you lose total body fat. Do 8-15 repetitions per set; move slowly and deliberately so you really feel every rep. Here are a few you might want to try:
Basic crunch: Works the rectus abdominis, the wide flat muscle that runs from your breastbone to the top of your pelvis.
Lie on the floor with your feet hip-width apart. Cradle your head in your hands without lacing your fingers together and with your elbows rounded slightly inward. Tilt your chin a small way towards your chest and pull your abdominal muscles in.
Exhale through your mouth as you curl your head, neck, and shoulders up off the floor. Hold at the top of the movement for a moment, then inhale as you slowly lower down.
Twist crunch: This exercise works your rectus abdominis as well as your internal and external obliques, two muscle groups that wrap around your waist.
Same as the basic crunch
Exhale through your mouth and curl your head, neck, and shoulders up and towards the left. Hold at the top of the movement, then lower to the start. Twist to the right on the next rep, and continue alternating until you complete the set. Note: Don't just twist your elbows from side to side. Really concentrate on twisting from your middle.
Anchoring: This exercise uses all of your abdominal muscles, including the deep, underlying transverse abdominis. Your lower back also gets a workout.
Lie on your back with your left foot on the floor. Lift up your right leg and bend your knee so that your thigh is perpendicular to the floor and directly in line with your hip; flex your heel. Raise your arms up over your chest and clasp your fingers together.
Slowly lower your heel and your arms towards the floor. As you do so, concentrate on keeping your abs pulled inward, and don't allow your lower back to pop up off the floor. This becomes harder the closer your heel and hands move towards the floor. When your heel has almost touched the floor, slowly return your arms and leg to the start. Repeat this exercise four times with your right leg, then four times with your left.
But remember: Doing hundreds and hundreds of crunches, sit-ups and so forth will not reduce the fat stored in the abdominal region. You'll achieve better results by doing the aerobic exercise and a total body, strength-training routine, targeting your middle with strength-training exercises and following the eating tips described above.

Hope this is helpful!

Ok everyone, if you're out there and can sit for a moment, let me hear from you. (hahahahaha)
I'm just checking on you to see how your legs are feeling. I do hope you can feel like you actually worked them, but I trust that you are still in walking mode.
If you want to point the finger at anyone it would be Tomi, because she was discussing in class before most of you got there that she wanted to work on getting those hips down. She mentioned that she has a fitting to go to on Thursday. So that was just extra motivation to me to dial in on the lower body.
I give equal opportunity, so if any of you have request or areas that you need to dial in on, don't hesitate to let me know. :-) I do aim to please!
Ok for now, look forward to see you all on Thursday....remember, feet down lightly, you are a lady.
Until the next time, let's get...

Hello readers, well here I am again hitting and missing on the blog. I love to do it, but quite honestly I aways find something else I know that I NEED to give my time and attention to rather then bloging. So it ends up being weeks before I get back on. I'll get there, more consistent that is.
The Fall Classes at the YMCA started back up right after Labor Day and I kicked off my first official Fall Classes by myself. Last year the Fall, Winter and Spring classes I joined in with my partner in FITNESS, Alicha Hall. Well she took a break off from teaching and now it's just me.
So, about my classes. They are going well. I'm into the 4th week this week of a 8 week session. The 2nd Fall session starts around the 1st part of November. The ladies (a man here and there) are coming and working hard. On last friday I presented the "Carla Challenge" that will take us to the end of the 2nd Fall Session. That ends on Dec. 14th. Several ladies are taking the challenge as well as the Southwest Director of the YMCA. I was totally surprised. It's a MALE!
The challenge consist of the participants focusing on different things each week, from adding extra exercises, eliminating certain food traps to encouraging someone different each week. Two of the rules of engagement are to have FUN and get RESULTS. If you would like a copy of the challenge just let me know and I'll be more than happy to send it to you.
Some of the ladies took before pictures so that we can compare their outcome. Oh, I didn't mention that, at the end of the challenge we will gather to celebrate each others victories.
My goal is to encourage the ladies to do something they've never done before so that they can get something that they've never had before.
Why don't you join us while we get...FIT FOR THE FAITH FIGHT!!

What's Combofit? Well it's a combination of different types of fitness exercises. I've been running this class for the summer at the Jorgensen Family YMCA. It's been a very fun class. The members have shown by their participation that they are really enjoying it. The class adverages 25-30 participants a class. It meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am to 10am. We do toning, strengthening, cardio and endurance. It's mixed up, sometimes more of one then the other or a balance of all the mentioned.
One thing I didn't mention is abs. Oh yeh, we do zero in on those also! I absolutely love it.
So come join me anytime. If you are a member of the YMCA there's no cost. If you're not a member you can be my guest your first visit.
There are times that I'm out due to traveling or obligations with the family, the class still goes on, unless there isn't an instructor to cover.
I look forward to seeing you there. Grab some of your buddies and surprise me! I guarantee you that it will
be worth your time. It will either jump start your motor, keep your motor running or speed your motor up!
Until next time, stay...

Hello Everyone, wow, it's been over 4 weeks since I last posted.
It's been a very amazing month in my life with my Mom going home to be with Jesus. I'm so thankful for so many things. First for the love of God that I experienced during this time. Secondly the love, patients and compassion shown to me from my husband, our children, the Summit Church family and countless friends. You may be amazed on how healthy that can be. Support helps you to be able to release all the pressure, anxiety and grief that may try to accompany the lost of a loved one. There is a degree of grieving
that can be healthy, however, don't let it control you to the point of dysfunction. I'll admit, I truly miss my Mom. We had such wonderful times together. I've caught myself resently thinking "I need to call Mom to tell her"...then I remembered, "oh I can't". Then I choose to dwell on the wonderful memories.
Another very very healthy thing during the time of a loved one's departing, is knowing who you are in Christ.
Understanding that the greater one lives on the inside. Understanding that, even in tough times I can have joy. Understanding that I'm not as those who have no hope. If you know that the loved one knew Christ and is now dwelling in heaven this brings you joy...and that my friend is healthy!
Well until next week, I'm charging you to....
